Renata (daughter of Walter Stoeckli and Verena Hitz Bay), also known under her nickname Yo, was born in Basel and grew up in Yverdon (canton of Vaud). She studied dentistry in Zurich and passed the State Examination in 1970. In 1972 Renata married Hubertus von Gemmingen and moved to Fribourg in the Western part of Switzerland. She is retired from the private dental clinic, but still takes care of handicapped persons in two homes. She is member of the Société suisse de médecine dentaire pour handicapés et personnes agées (SGZBB), the Société suisse d’Odonto-Stomatologie (SSO) and the Swiss Dentists’ Society (SDS). In her free time she is a passionate fan of theatre, opera and contemporary dance performances and enjoys outdoor activities like skiing and wandering, especially in the Buendner Oberland (Val Lumnezia), visiting museums, art galleries and exhibitions.
Hubertus was born in Wentorf near Hamburg and passed his first years in Wuerttemberg. In 1956 his family moved to Fribourg in Switzerland. He studied German literature, philosophy, history of art and journalism at the universities of Zurich and Fribourg. He obtained the degree of PhD in 1975 with a thesis about the German author Paul Scheerbart. During ten years he was responsible for the international co-production of art books at the Swiss publishing house Office du Livre. In 1988 he chose independency as freelance copy editor and translator. In his free time he shares the activities and passions of his wife. Moreover he is member of the executive committee of the Historical Association of the canton of Fribourg and publishes regularly articles on the urban and architectural history of the city of Fribourg.
